A Provocation 2 Thought

Don’t believe everything you read, hear or see (even on this site). Most of the “news” in print, on the radio, and on television is commentary. Not NEWS. Even the “facts” in a story are usually presented in such a way as to leave you thinking as the writer. Sometimes the “facts” are made up, or so distorted they no longer resemble the truth. My goal is to provoke you 2 thought. Read between the lines. Glean truth from many sources. Then… Think for yourself. Make up your own mind.

Islam: Religion of Peace

In a recent speech the pope quoted a Byzantine emperor from the late 1300's. the quote is "Show me just what Mohamed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached"

The pope said he did NOT believe that or mean to say the emperor was correct. He only quoted him to demonstrate that there has been a perception of violence associated with Islam for a long time and that the pope believes that true Muslims are not this way, but rather those who misuse Islam and kill in the name of their god (obviously NOT the true God) cause that misconception. And that no true believing Muslim would do such.

Regardless of the pope's intentions, the reaction by Muslims has been... interesting. Muslims are so angry that they were accused of violence by a 14th century Byzantine emperor that they:

In Somalia an Italian nun was killed, it is believed, over the pope's quote. She selflessly sacrificed most of her (living) life to help those in need, including Muslims. Other than a new born baby, can you think of ANYONE more innocent than she?

In Turkey the government has been petitioned by supposed Muslims to arrest and kill the pope over the quote.

In India the police took all copies of a newspaper which quoted the speech. The reason? They were concerned it may incite Muslims to violence.

The Vatican has received many more death threats than usual against the pope since the quote.

Well, now I understand the problem. Islam is a religion of peace. To suggest that a person claiming to be Muslim may use violence is obviously SO far from reality that the Byzantine emperor who wrote that obviously had no idea what he was saying, and above is the proof.
