A Provocation 2 Thought

Don’t believe everything you read, hear or see (even on this site). Most of the “news” in print, on the radio, and on television is commentary. Not NEWS. Even the “facts” in a story are usually presented in such a way as to leave you thinking as the writer. Sometimes the “facts” are made up, or so distorted they no longer resemble the truth. My goal is to provoke you 2 thought. Read between the lines. Glean truth from many sources. Then… Think for yourself. Make up your own mind.

Are Democrats Admitting Themselves Liberal?

In the Feb. 17, 2003 issue of THE NATION, William Greider wrote:

“The Senator (Hillary Clinton) prefers the label of centrist, not liberal. And she works hard to make the distinction stick.”

THE NATION is a clearly left leaning publication, and the article is NOT written to hurt Mrs. Clinton's chances of being elected President, but rather to help her.

I know that Hillary Clinton states that she does not consider herself a liberal. I know that the vast majority of democrats state that they do not consider themselves liberal.

Given this: Why have so many “non-liberal” democrats been offended by Mr. Rove's comments about “liberals”?

Think about it. As a Cincinnati Reds fan (not much of a fan, but they are the “home team”) if I heard someone stating that the Yankees play better baseball than the Braves, I may agree or disagree, but I would not consider that an insult to my Reds. If they stated the Yankees play better than the Reds (they do) I may, as a fan get offended by them dissing my team. But ONLY if it is MY team they are disparaging.

Since most democrats (using the above analogy) claim not to be for either the Yankees or the Braves, why are they upset about the Braves being spoken ill of?

They will say they are not liberal. Then their feelings get hurt when something is said about “liberals”? I have not heard one of these democrats state “While I myself am not a liberal, I want to stand up for the two liberals in our party and express my disgust with the fact that Mr. Rove would say such a bad thing about the two liberals in our party, and as I mentioned before I am NOT one of those two, and I do not associate with either of them.” (Just to be consistent, with as far away from the word liberal as they try to get, they probably should not talk to them either.)

Democrats go out of their way to claim that they are NOT liberal. However, it would seem that while they do not want to admit it, many are in fact liberal after all. All you have to do to find them is see who is complaining that the comment Mr. Rove made about liberals being soft on terrorist was aimed at them and you can clearly see who considers themselves liberal. (For all of the talk of her being centerist instead of liberal, I recall Mrs. Clinton complaining in the last few days about this.)

The important question is are they really closet Braves fans too?

Koran Abuse?

At Guantanamo Bay, Cuba the guards are not allowed to touch a Koran. This would be sac religious. Our government, the same government who's courts have ruled that having the words “under God” in the pledge is unconstitutional, has made rules for handling the Koran. Our government has essentially told the guards to treat the Koran as though it were a rare, fragile piece of art. This same government would never place such rules on the handling of a Bible, though far more Americans believe in the Bible than believe in the Koran. We have gone WAY, WAY out of our way to honor the religion of terrorists, in prison.

A few weeks ago, Newsweek published an article in which they erroneously wrote that a guard had flushed a Koran down a toilet. Hundreds of Muslims rioted in Afghanistan killing 13 people! Newsweek later retracted the story because it was FALSE. Too bad for those 13 people and their families that Newsweek didn't get its facts strait BEFORE going to print. But I digress.

My point is this. Just the reporting of ONE Koran mistreated caused all of these Muslims to riot. I am sure that all of the rioters have a negative view of America. I am sure they had it BEFORE the Koran story, and that was simply an excuse to do something they wanted to do anyway. Nonetheless, that was the final provocation. One Koran mistreated.

To a Muslim the Koran is holy. I suspect that at any given time you could find dozens of Korans in a mosque. I am sure that a mosque is considered holy. My guess is that the body of a Muslim cleric would be considered holy as well. I would even go so far as to say that a funeral is holy to Muslims also.

So, on Wednesday when an al-qaida homicide/suicide bomber bombed a mosque, (probably destroying many copies of the Koran) during a funeral for a Muslim cleric, killing at least 20, and wounding at least 42, where were the riots against the blasphemous al-qaida?
